Review Text

The third edition of Bone Marrow Pathology contains more than superficial changes from the previous edition. New sections in each chapter include up-to-date information on supplementary tests including molecular genetics, immunophenotyping and immunohistochemistry. The dominant and consistent theme throughout the book is the importance of thorough morphological examination of the peripheral blood film, bone marrow aspirate and trephine biopsy in achieving correct pathological diagnosis. This is supplemented with information on additional tests, which may be helpful, and new sections on problems and pitfalls that may be encountered in diagnosing each condition. The section on the normal bone marrow is a helpful and well presented introduction to examination of the bone marrow and will serve as a sound basis on which to move onto the chapters dealing with pathological changes seen in the marrow.Evidence is presented in the form of references throughout the text and provides an opportunity for further reading. The figures are well reproduced in colour and several images are presented for each of the disorders. An exhaustive collection of images and descriptions are available on some of the more rare disorders that may be encountered. This book will provided an invaluable reference for trainee haematologists, laboratory scientists and other interested pathology workers.
